Wisconsin Well Testing Access Program (WellTAP)
Who qualifies: Households whose private well serves their main home, where someone is pregnant, a child 12 or younger, or a person with a weakened immune system, and a financial or other burden makes testing on your own hard
Free testing of your well for bacteria, nitrate, fluoride and metals. Ask Sheboygan County Environmental Health for a sample kit. The State Lab of Hygiene tests it, and the county sends you the results and advice if a level is high.
Program pageWhat the health department recommends
Test your well for bacteria and nitrate at least once a year, and for arsenic and lead at least once every five years.
This is the county or state health agency's own advice, not ours.
Sheboygan County Environmental Health does not sample or test private wells. It can tell you if you qualify for free testing through WellTAP.
