About Well Water Test Finder

Well Water Test Finder answers one question for people on a private well: where do I get my water tested in my county, what does it cost, and how do I do it?

Why it exists

Nobody checks a private well for you. Many county health departments sell a bacteria test for $15 to $50, but each county explains it on its own page, often in a PDF fee sheet, and the details are easy to miss: where to pick up a bottle, which days the lab takes samples, how fast a sample has to get there, and whether staff must come out to take it. Some counties stopped testing and only point to a state or university lab. We put those facts in one place for each county.

Who runs it

Well Water Test Finder is a small, independent project. We are not a lab, a health department or a water treatment company, and we are not connected to any provider we list. We give no advice on whether water is safe: we list who tests it, what they charge and how their process works.

How we check

Every fact comes from the provider's own website or its fee sheets and sampling instructions, and each county page shows the date we last checked it. When a provider doesn't say something, we leave it out instead of guessing. More on how we check.

What we cover

41 counties in Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. More counties are being added.

What we won't do

No ratings, no paid placement and no guesses dressed up as facts. If something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it: corrections@wellwatertestfinder.com.
