This is the county or state health agency's own advice, not ours.
Rules that apply
- In Michigan, a new well must be tested when it is first put in. After that, testing is up to the well owner.
- In Kent County, a new well cannot be used until test results meet basic health standards. The test must include coliform bacteria, a state-certified lab must do it, and the health department or someone it approves must take the sample.
Kent County Health Department issues well permits. For questions about a new well, contact its Environmental Health Division in Grand Rapids.
